In a forgotten fold of the English countryside lies Mallowbrook village and its crumbling old castle.
It might be one of the prettiest villages in England, but it’s also one of the oddest.

It’s a place that can’t help but drift between the past and the present, where history and memory linger in every stone, and where the ghosts spend more time knitting and drinking tea than they do haunting.

At the heart of it all is eleven-year-old Arthur Pendry. Arthur lives with his Great Aunt Tilda, and on his birthday he didn’t just get chocolate cake, he got an unexpected visitor: a bright blue and rather grumpy bat named Bert.

I’m Vincent Shaw — writer and creator of the world of Bert the Bat. I’ve always loved stories where the everyday brushes against the magical, where history whispers down narrow lanes, and where ghosts have better manners than the living. Bert the Bat is my way of bringing that love of myth, mischief, and quiet wonder to life.

Bert the Bat is a magical middle-grade fantasy series for readers aged 10+ and for grown-ups who still believe in hidden paths, quiet ghosts, and the kind of magic that smells faintly of lavender and old libraries.
